5 Reviews for Samsung SM226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Good in principle, but in practice.... - 05 Aug 2008

Replacing an old Dell flatscreen, I read up on a lot of monitors. The 226BW got good reviews in a number of places, including here.
I was very disappointed with the image when I first set it up, but assumed I could adjust it extensively. The built-in controls are somewhat limited if you're using a digital connection, but again, I assumed once I had the main OSD suite - MagicTune - installed it'd be hunky dory. But oh no.
I've got a new machine running 64 bit Vista Home Premium. The disc that accompanies the 226BW points you in the dreiction of the Samsung website to download MagicTune for Vista. I installed it from the Samsung site, but on restart got a message saying "This computer does not support MagicTune", pointing me straight back to the website where I'd just downloaded it from.
Hunting around, it seems a lot of people have this problem, but a solution has yet to present itself. The upshot is I have very limited adjustment controls over the monitor, and I'm stuck with a ropey, thoroughly unsatisfactory image.
If you're using 64-bit Vista, I'd avoid the 226BW, or at least wait until Samsung have updated their software so it's not crippled by compatibility issues.

I ordered this monitor on a friday morning ! And i recieved it the following saturday morning! Excellent delivery service!(express delivery).I read various reviews and i was a little wary about the whole monitor grade fiasco! But i went for it anyway! I was not disapointed the screen itself is beautiful ! very classy looking ! And its huge ! Im a big gamer and i was thinking of going for the samsung 24" but the 22" is plenty big enough ! The screen quality fantastic ! no dead pixels! All the colours are so bright and vibrant it makes gaming a joy all over again ! (tested with prey, bioshock, crysis all look fantastic ! especially prey because of the colours !)there's no blurring at all with the super fast response time it runs like a dream ! Movies also look fantastic! I really recomend this monitor and the price is great too! so do yourself a favour plump for this monitor its fantastic! BRAVO SAMSUNG !
Nice .. but - 22 May 2008

Sure it is big, stylish and produces pretty nice images ... but when I look at my screen with the blank screensaver (so a black screen) in the dark it feels like I am looking at a torchlicht. And that when the brightness is at 0... don't know if this qualifies for a return, but I guess I'll soon find out if the costumer service of Amazon.co.uk is up to par with Amazon.com...
Excellent monitor, but not flawless. - 19 Mar 2008

I recently purchased this excellent monitor, here is a brief review of it's good and bad points.
GOOD
Beautiful styling. Matches the looks of much more expensive HD TV's.
Incredibly sharp and excellent image quality in windows over a DVI cable.
Games look stunning and vivid.
Movies looked generally good.
Instant WOW factor when upgrading from older or smaller monitors. 22" widescreen will blow you away. Image quality exceptional compared to budget panels (such as you may have at work).
NEGATIVE
Back light bleed at top and bottom of screen noticeable when screen displays dark images...
Which slightly mars its performance in certain film scenes.
I found the screen adjust buttons awkward and non intuitve.
For £200 it is now possible to purchase a high quality premium 22" wide screen monitor with amzing styling and image quality.I was really happy with my purchase.
Good luck!

Took delivery of one of these last week, and have to say I have been very impressed, particularly for the money.
Out of the box, the screen was bright, clear, with nice vivid colours. I had read about the varying panels that can potentially be fitted to this screen, but I haven't even bothered to check, as the picture more than satifies my expectations.
The lack of height adjustment is a slight shame, but in no way detracts from the screen. You can, after all, sit it on something if you require it to be higher.
All in all, I would say if you were thinking of buying this screen, go for it, you won't be disappointed.
