Bought from Amazon in February 2008:
1. Plug and Play - simple to set up, excellent automatic tuning for both digital and analogue services
2. High quality picture with strong digital TV signal, excellent quality DVD picture particularly when using a 1800 upscaling DVD player (recommended) through HDI
3. Sound quality - excellent for a TV of this size - enough to fill an average sized living room
4. Not had to change any of the default settings for picture or sound quality - it is great as it is!
5. Channel surfing is quicker than many digital sets I have tried
6. Remote control is good - shame it is a grey colour (as per previous comments)
7. Has higher dynamic ratio than the Sony KDL20S3000 coloured TV range - which makes the picture better (compared in Sony shop) - the only major difference (and the fact it comes in black only!)

Highly recommended - we have it in our smallish typical sized living room for UK residents and it is absolutely brilliant - we did not want a new TV to dominate the landscape and this 20" is plenty big enough for good film viewing particularly if TV does not rule your home life.
Well done Sony - another fine product and I am so glad I have once again gone for a trusted and quality brand.

I too looked at this telly in comparison with the Samsung model, as a replacement for my 17-year-old Sony Trinitron bedroom TV. Comparing the two side by side in the local Currys my perception was that the Samsung had the better picture quality; however this may have been due to the signal in the shop or the slightly smaller picture size of the Samsung. Anyhow, I decided on the Sony due to the easy-to-use EPG for the digital tuner; my Sony set-top-box I use on my outdated CRT TV has proved excellent in this respect, and I hoped that this would be carried over to the in-built tuner.

Consequently ease of use and functionality are excellent, with a simple EPG which shows all channels and whats on now and over the next 2 hours. Brilliant. There are a couple of things I'm not too keen on, rather than taking up linespace I've compiled a list of pros and cons.

Pros
- EPG functions, best one I've used.
- Picture quality (when it warms up)
- Sound quality
- Sony reliability (if my 17-year-old previous telly was an example)

Cons
- Selection of a channel from the EPG also prompts a 'tune' or 'record' function. This seems unnecessary if it's the current program, imho, I'd rather have direct access.
- Colours are a bit too bright for me, and there is no colour adjustment, apart from a three-position setting.
- It seems to take a while to 'warm-up' to the best picture.
- The quoted viewing angle is 178degrees, true, but at the extremities the picture is (at best) washed out. View full-on if possible!

These are all a bit nit-picking, and shows how good the overall performance of the TV is. Recommended!

I too (bizarrely) was also using a Samsung 17" LCD TV connect to a freeview box and an XBox 360. Sound was pretty bad and the picture wasn't great with red colours showing up with this lattice pattern...

Roll on this new 20" HD TV and goodness! The 360 goes in via component now (rather than through the RCA plugs) and its like a breath of fresh air! That and the fantastic inbuilt digital tuner with DVB so you can always see what's on.

It also has a PCMCIA slot in the side, so if you decide you want to buy one of those Pay As You Go TV cards, you can use one, or hook up any HDMI device to the back of it.

Oh and wall mounting it took all of 10 minutes.

All in all a fantastic HDTV! Go buy one now! I didn't buy one from here, but rather from a local dealer for £369.99 down from the RRP which is £480. When I saw Amazon's price I almost wept... Ah well..!

In a crowded marketplace for small (bedroom and kitchen size) TVs the Sony 20S series really does stand out by virtue of both picture and sound quality. Other makes I have tried come no where in comparison to this which is our second small Sony LCD TV in the "KDL series". The picture is vibrant and sharp whilst the sound, although it won't shake the floorboards, is so much better than other simlar sized TVs by other brands.

If I had a criticism, and we are talking about a premium small TV, it is that Sony have not seen fit to produce a custom remote - the remote supplied is a full size one supplied with some of their bigger 32" plus sets and the light silver colour of the handset does not match the TV which is a dark metallic grey (not far off black) - to me, this is slighty lazy on the part of Sony but does not really affect the performance of this high quality, small but beautifully crafted product. In summary, this compact TV is unreservedly recommended and respresents an excellent price/performance ratio.

We decided to try the Sony Bravia once we had taken back Samsung's 19" as we were unhappy about quite a few things. Firstly the picture quality is very good for a smaller viewing experience, the sounds good (probably because the noise is frontal rather than coming out the bottom!). You can view this TV at any angle without the picture disappearing - very handy if using in a kitchen. The speed of button hopping is pretty good too, we found with the Samsung, that not only did it take an eternity to change channels ( making channel hopping more like channel crawling), it also did not show up what you were actually watching - which the Sony does.

Anyway, all in all we would definitely recommend spending that bit little extra.
