Great - until it broke! - 11 Jan 2008

The TV was great to start with - picture quality is fantastic, sound is excellent, and it was everything I'd hoped for. But after 15 weeks it broke - the screen went blank and it kept switching itself on and off in an endless cycle. "No problem" I thought - it's under warranty and I'll get it repaired.
Well, the TV was collected on 26th November and, nearly 7 weeks later, I still don't have it back. Christmas viewing was ruined. The repairers, acting under Sony's instruction, keep ordering parts (which are never in the country and take days to arrive), fit them, and it till doesn't work. Sony themselves are completely useless - all I get from them is a promise to call the repairers, which I can do myself. As of today it appears to be fixed but I still have to wait another 4 days to get it back.
My advice? Buy a Panasonic Viera. Wish I had.
KDL 40 X 2000 Review - 05 Dec 2007

After reading many reviews on various LCD makes (including on the SOny 40 x series), going into one showroom after another and getting staff to carry out a variety of tests to compare a number of LCD brands within the 37" to 40" range, I now have to agree with all the good reviews about the Sony 40" X series. I took delivery yesterday and I am even more impressed than my initial impression when seeing this Sony LCD in the shops. And guess what, picture clarity of standard terrestial TV signal is crystal clear. Even without connecting to a SKY HD box set. ...By the way John Lewis did a price match for £1549 (with 5 yr warrentee)..Best value out there at the moment when you check prices on line (with 5 yrs cover included). Pick any online company with a walk-in shop/warehouse where LCDs (of any make) can be bought over the counter.
The tricky part is attaching the TV stand (took 3 mins), but once that was done Setting up the TV took me a couple of minutes at the most. The automatic Smart TV setting resizes your ITV image to fit the screen with little distortion of the image. I did not itend to spend this amount on an LCD however I can tell you all it was absolutely worth pushing the boat out.
I would advise seating at least 2 meters from the screen and futher out for better viewing. Also you may want to invest in a home cinema system or equivalent audio system. The LCD speakers could have been better, but hey, I am not complaining. ALl in all only slightly (and stress slightly) let down by speakers. Beware issues with 40X3500. more money but improvement do not justify additional cost.
First of all , as already mentioned , you can buy this model much cheaper elsewhere - so shop around before you buy ! To be hone - 04 Nov 2007

First of all , as already mentioned , you can buy this model much cheaper elsewhere - so shop around before you buy ! To be honest I nearly went for the W series as I simply couldnt see a difference in the picture with the W and X side by side , so it was actually the looks of the X series which persuaded me to part with the extra £300 or so .
The glass and silver bezel look simply stunning ! and apparently you can buy different coloured bezels ? even when turned off its a masterpiece ! HOW do they get the lights INSIDE the glass ? there are no wires ?
When running standard defintion through the TV I must say its not quite as good as my friends Pioneer model ( apparently the Panasonic is good too ) but when you run a HD transmission through the TV its simply awesome ! Im a SONY tart so there was no question of any other brands unfortnately !!
Im running SKY HD , XBOX 360 and a SONY DVD player that upscales to 1080P all through the TV - all look stunning !
My only gripe would be that when the TV was fitted to the wall , the positioning of the sockets at the back of the TV ( particuarly the HDMI sockets ) made it very awkward to fit ... but with a third pair of hands and teasing of the cables it was OK . Maybe it would be better to put all the sockets UNDERNEATH the TV to make it easier ? Its my only gripe .. Oh and the remote is RIDICULOUSLY massive ... ?
Id recommend this TV to anyone who is thinking of a 40" LCD TV with full 1080P resolotuion with a budget of £1300 or so ?
Oh and did I mention that the glass and silver bezel look AMAZING !
